Our History:

With its community-friendly atmosphere and focus on personal service, Freddie’s
Market has become something of a landmark in Webster Groves and a Bononi tradition.

It all started in 1928 when Alfred Bononi, Sr. came over from Italy. He and his brother
purchased a farm and grocery store. Eventually the brothers made a deal and Alfred Sr. got
the grocery store. In 1948, following in his father’s footsteps, Alfred Jr. (Freddie) bought
a neighborhood grocery store in St. Louis. Twenty years later he expanded Freddie’s
Market to its present location at Big Bend and Rock Hill Rd. Now Freddie’s is in the
capable hands of a third generation, Larry Bononi and wife Cathy.

“We try to treat every customer as if they were family – we’ve seen most of them grow
up and get married,” said Larry. “Both Cathy and I graduated from Webster Groves High
School, so a lot of old friends will stop by.”

Freddie’s stocks USDA Choice aged, hand-cut meats, grass-fed beef, natural chicken
and pork, and Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses. Their farm-fresh produce is hand-selected over three times a week at Produce Row, as well as from local farmers.

This full-service neighborhood market also stocks organics, an outstanding selection
of wines, liquors and beers, and offers homemade bread and pies baked fresh every day at the store. On Saturdays they offer wine tastings and samplings. They are famous for their party trays, sandwiches, baked hams, boxed lunches, homemade chicken salad, and offer home delivery five days a week. Freddie’s will even prepare any type of roast for your
dining pleasure.

“We're a full-service grocery store with a true neighborhood feel. We're always looking
for new and unique items,” said Larry. “And we aim to provide the personal service you
can’t get anywhere else.”

Our specialties include a full service meat department with custom meat cutting, natural chicken, natural pork, bison, and Boar’s Head deli meats. We provide farm fresh produce, local produce from local farmers when in season. We have an outstanding selection of wines, liquors, and beers. We have fresh baked bread and pies everyday.
